Mobile began as the first capital of colonial French Louisiana in 1702 and was later ruled by Britain, then Spain and became a part of the United States in 1813. Organized Carnival celebrations began in Mobile and today, Mobile’s annual Mardi Gras celebration tops the list of area “Events and Festivals.” Mardi Gras in Mobile is widely revered as the oldest annual Carnival celebration in the United States. Altogether, 1.3 million people take part in Mobile's Carnival festivities, also making it the second-largest community festival in the country.
We are Bill and Holly Turk. We opened Mobile’s Atlanta Bread in 1999 because we saw this as a unique, healthy and fresh alternative to common chains and fast food. We have lived in Mobile since 1979 and have raised our four children here. We love Mobile and Baldwin County and of course, the Mardi Gras history held here.
